Widespread support for the development of Halifax waterfront ‘cultural hub’
- Just over eight in ten Halifax residents support the development of a ‘cultural hub’ on the Halifax waterfront
- One in eight residents oppose the Halifax waterfront ‘cultural hub’ development
HALIFAX, NS May 29, 2018: A strong majority of Halifax residents support the development of a ‘cultural hub’ on the Halifax waterfront, according to the most recent survey conducted by Corporate Research Associates Inc.
The provincial government recently announced that it will begin exploring options for a ‘cultural hub’ on the Halifax waterfront. The ‘cultural hub’ will include a new Art Gallery of Nova Scotia, the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design University, and a public common space. All things considered, just over eight in ten (83%) Halifax residents completely or mostly support the development of a ‘cultural hub’ on the Halifax waterfront. Meanwhile, one in eight (13%) residents completely or mostly oppose this Halifax waterfront development, and three percent do not know or do not have an opinion on the matter.
“There is overwhelming support for the concept of a ‘cultural’ hub on the Halifax waterfront among residents of the City,” said Don Mills, Chairman and CEO of Corporate Research Associates. “It is rare to have such a high level of majority support on any issue.”
These results are part of the CRA Urban Report, an independent telephone survey of 400 Halifax (Census Metropolitan Area [CMA]) adult residents, 18 years of age or older, conducted from April 23 to May 7, 2018. Overall results are accurate to within ±4.9 percentage points, 95 out of 100 times.
