While NB Provincial Government Satisfaction Remains Stable, Support Declines
HALIFAX: Satisfaction with the performance of the provincial PC government remains unchanged this quarter, according to the most recent survey conducted by Corporate Research Associates Inc. Presently, 47 percent (compared with 45% in May 2012) of New Brunswick residents are either completely or mostly satisfied with the provincial government, while a similar number (44%, compared with 45%) are dissatisfied. Nine percent do not offer an opinion.
Continuing high levels of dissatisfaction appear to have hurt support for the PC Government. Endorsement for the provincial PC party among decided voters stands at just under four in ten residents (38%, compared with 44% three months ago). One-third of New Brunswickers back the Liberals (32%, unchanged), while one-quarter support the NDP (24%, compared with 19%). Green Party support is stable (6%, compared with 5%), while less than one percent of decided voters back the People’s Alliance of New Brunswick (unchanged). Over four in ten residents are undecided, do not plan to vote, or refused to state a preference (44%, compared with 41%).
One-third of New Brunswick residents prefer David Alward for Premier (33%, compared with 37%), while interim leader Victor Boudreau of the Liberal Party is preferred by approximately two in ten (18%, compared with 17%). Support for Dominic Cardy of the NDP stands at 15 percent (compared with 12%). Six percent (compared with 3%) prefer interim leader Greta Doucet of the Green Party, while one percent (unchanged) prefer Kris Austin of the People’s Alliance of New Brunswick as Premier. Seven percent of New Brunswick residents like none of these leaders or prefer others, while two in ten do not offer a definite opinion.
These results are part of the CRA Atlantic Quarterly®, an independent survey of Atlantic Canadians, and are based on a sample of 400 adult New Brunswickers, conducted from August 14 to August 31, 2012, with overall results accurate to within ±4.9 percentage points, 95 out of 100 times.
