Voter Intentions Tighten as Satisfaction with NB PC Declines
HALIFAX: Support for the provincial PC Party declined this quarter, according to the most recent survey conducted by Corporate Research Associates Inc. Support for the PC Party among decided voters stands at one-third (32%, down from 38% three months ago). Meanwhile, a similar number back the Liberals (35%, compared with 38%), and NDP support increased (26%, up from 19%). Green Party support is stable (5%, compared with 4%), while less than one percent of decided voters back the People’s Alliance of New Brunswick (compared with 1%). Over four in ten residents are undecided, do not plan to vote, or refused to state a preference (45%, compared with 40%).
Satisfaction with the performance of the provincial PC government declined this quarter. Presently four in ten (41%, down from 46% in November 2012) of New Brunswick residents are either completely or mostly satisfied with the provincial government, while one-half (49%, unchanged) are dissatisfied. One in ten do not offer an opinion (10%, compared with 5%).
David Alward’s personal popularity declined this quarter, with two in ten New Brunswick residents preferring Alward for Premier (21%, down from 29%). Meanwhile, Brian Gallant of the Liberal Party is preferred by one-quarter (26%, compared with 29%). Support for Dominic Cardy of the NDP stands at 15% (compared with 11%). Six percent (compared with 5%) prefer David Coon of the Green Party, while two percent (compared with 3%) prefer Kris Austin of the People’s Alliance of New Brunswick as Premier. Seven percent of New Brunswick residents like none of these leaders, while over two in ten do not offer a definite opinion.
These results are part of the CRA Atlantic Quarterly®, an independent survey of Atlantic Canadians, and are based on a sample of 401 adult New Brunswickers, conducted from February 13 to March 8, 2013, with overall results accurate to within ±4.9 percentage points, 95 out of 100 times.
