Satisfaction with PE Government Increases
HALIFAX: Satisfaction with the performance of the PE Liberal government increased this quarter, according to the most recent survey conducted by Corporate Research Associates Inc. Specifically, over one-half of PE residents (55%, up from 43% in February 2014) are either completely or mostly satisfied, while four in ten (41%, down from 51%) are dissatisfied. The number of residents who do not offer a definite opinion stands at five percent (compared with 6% three months ago).
Backing for the provincial Liberals is stable this quarter, and rests at just over one-half (53%, unchanged), while support for the PC stands at 23 percent (compared with 17%). Support for the NDP stands at 21 percent (compared with 22%), while support for the Green Party rests at three percent (compared with 7%). Meanwhile, less than one percent back the Island Party of PEI (unchanged). The number of Islanders who are undecided rests at 25 percent (compared with 27%), while eight percent refuse to state a preference (compared with 5%), and six percent either support none of the parties or do not plan to vote (compared with 7%).
Liberal leader Robert Ghiz’s personal popularity is stable this quarter. Presently, four in ten residents (39%, compared with 35%) prefer Ghiz for Premier. Meanwhile, under two in ten (17%, compared with 19%) support Mike Redmond of the NDP, while Interim Leader Steven Myers of the PC Party has the backing of one in ten Islanders (12%, compared with 9%). Support for Peter Bevan-Baker of the Green Party stands at six percent (compared with 7%), while one percent prefer the next leader of the Island Party of PEI (unchanged). One in ten (8%, compared with 10%) prefer none of these leaders, while two in ten (18%, unchanged) are undecided or do not offer an opinion.
These results are part of the CRA Atlantic Quarterly®, an independent telephone survey of Atlantic Canadians, and are based on a sample of 300 adult Prince Edward Islanders, conducted from May 8 to May 22, 2014 with overall results accurate to within ± 5.7 percentage points, 95 out of 100 times.
