PE Liberal Party Maintains Wide Lead Over PCs Although Gap Narrows
HALIFAX: The PE Liberal Party has maintained its lead over other provincial parties however the gap has narrowed recently according to the most recent survey conducted by Corporate Research Associates Inc. Specifically, support for the Liberals remains near the 50 percent level this quarter (48%, compared with 53% in May 2014), while backing for the PCs stands at 28 percent (compared with 23%). Support for the NDP stands at 16 percent (compared with 21%), while support for the Green Party rests at seven percent (compared with 3%). Meanwhile, less than one percent back the Island Party of PEI (unchanged). The number of Islanders who are undecided rests at 25 percent (unchanged), while eight percent refuse to state a preference (unchanged), and five percent either support none of the parties or do not plan to vote (compared with 6%).
With regards to government satisfaction, one-half of PE residents (52%, compared with 55% three months ago) are satisfied, while four in ten (41%, unchanged) are dissatisfied. The number of residents who do not offer a definite opinion stands at six percent (compared with 5% three months ago).
Liberal leader Robert Ghiz’s personal popularity is stable this quarter. Presently, over one-third of residents (36%, compared with 39%) prefer Ghiz for Premier. Meanwhile, one in seven Islanders (14%, compared with 12%) prefer Interim Leader Steven Myers of the PC Party, while two in ten (18%, compared with 17%) back Mike Redmond of the NDP. Support for Peter Bevan-Baker of the Green Party stands at five percent (compared with 6%), while one percent prefer the next leader of the Island Party of PEI (unchanged). One in ten (9%, compared with 8%) prefer none of these leaders, while under two in ten (17%, compared with 18%) are undecided or do not offer an opinion.
These results are part of the CRA Atlantic Quarterly®, an independent telephone survey of Atlantic Canadians, and are based on a sample of 300 adult Prince Edward Islanders, conducted from August 14 to September 1, 2014 with overall results accurate to within ± 5.7 percentage points, 95 out of 100 times.
