New Brunswick residents continue to support a West-to-East Pipeline
- A majority of New Brunswick residents support the Energy East Pipeline project, similar to results from 2013.
- Northern and Southern New Brunswickers more likely to support the project compared to those in the Moncton area.
HALIFAX, NS September 27, 2016: New Brunswickers continue to support the development of a west-to-east pipeline, according to the latest survey conducted by Corporate Research Associates Inc.
More specifically, seven in ten (69%, compared with 66% in August 2013) of New Brunswick residents support a west-to-east pipeline, also known as the Energy East Pipeline, that would bring crude oil from Western Canada to refineries in Eastern Canada. Meanwhile, one-quarter (24%, compared with 25%) are opposed to this development, while six percent (as compared to 10%) are not sure or do not offer an opinion.
“A clear majority of New Brunswickers continue to support the Energy East Pipeline,” said Don Mills, Chairman and CEO of Corporate Research Associates. “Indeed, those supporting the pipeline out-number those who oppose it by nearly a three-to-one margin.”
Across the province, support for the Energy East Pipeline is higher in Northern and Southern New Brunswick, compared with the Moncton area.
These results are part of the CRA Atlantic Quarterly®, an independent telephone survey of Atlantic Canadians, and are based on a sample of 404 adult New Brunswickers, conducted from August 9 to August 31, 2016, with overall results accurate to within ± 4.9 percentage points, 95 out of 100 times.
