Moncton consumer confidence at highest level in 18 months

  • Consumer confidence in Moncton rises slightly this quarter to its highest level since November 2015
  • Satisfaction with the performance of Council under Mayor Arnold’s leadership appears to have rebounded, three months after reaching its lowest level since tracking began

HALIFAX, NS May 17, 2017: Consumer confidence in Moncton has increased slightly this quarter to its highest level in 18 months, according to the most recent Urban Report survey conducted by Corporate Research Associates Inc. (CRA). Specifically, Moncton consumer confidence rests at 106.8, compared with 103.3 three months ago.

Three months after reaching its lowest level since tracking began in August 2013, satisfaction with the performance of the Moncton Council appears to have rebounded slightly. Specifically, just over six in ten (63%, compared with 58% in February 2017) Moncton residents are satisfied with the performance of the Council under the leadership of Mayor Arnold, who was elected on May 9, 2016.

These results are part of the CRA Urban Report, an independent telephone survey of adult residents and consists of 400 Halifax CMA, 400 Saint John CMA, 400 Moncton CMA, and 400 Fredericton CA residents, conducted from April 19 to May 6, 2017, with overall results for each accurate to within ±4.9 percentage points, 95 out of 100 times. The survey results for government satisfaction are based on 400 Halifax CMA residents (±4.9 percentage points, 95% confidence level), 211 City of Saint John residents (±6.7 percentage points), 209 City of Moncton residents (±6.8 percentage points), and 290 City of Fredericton residents (±5.7 percentage points).
