Mike Savage Support for HRM Mayor Now Exceeds Support for Peter Kelly
HALIFAX: In the wake of the cash-for-concerts scandal, support for Mayor Kelly in the next mayoral election has declined significantly among decided voters (from 47% to 40%), while support for former Dartmouth MP Michael Savage has increased (from 46% to 49%), according to the most recent survey conducted by Corporate Research Associates, Inc. Those that would choose neither for mayor has also increased (from 7% to 11%) while 21% are undecided. Mayor Kelly’s support dropped the most in the former City of Halifax (from 49% to 33%).
“It seems apparent that the mayor’s involvement in the concert issue has hurt his support, at least in the short term,” according to Don Mills, President and CEO of Corporate Research Associates.
These results are part of the CRA Halifax Urban Report, an independent survey of Halifax Regional Municipality residents. The results are based on a sample of 401 adult residents, conducted from August 5 to August 20, 2011, with results accurate to within +4.9 percentage points, 95 out of 100 times.
