Majority of Halifax residents anticipate positive economic impact from Nova Centre
- Seven in ten Halifax residents agree that the Nova Centre will have a positive impact on the economy in Halifax
- Younger residents are more likely to agree that the Nova Centre will have a positive economic impact in Halifax
HALIFAX, NS May 23, 2018: A strong majority of Halifax residents agree that the Nova Centre will have a positive impact on the economy in Halifax, according to the most recent survey conducted by Corporate Research Associates Inc.
After several years of construction, the Nova Centre in downtown Halifax is now open to the public. All things considered, seven in ten (70%) Halifax residents completely or mostly agree that the Nova Centre will have a positive impact on the economy in Halifax. Meanwhile, two in ten (22%) residents disagree that the Nova Centre will have a positive economic impact, and one in ten (8%) do not know or do not have an opinion on the matter. Of note, agreement in this regard decreases with age.
“The strongly favourable opinion of the anticipated positive impact of the Nova Centre on the economy in Halifax may come as a surprise to some given the perceived significant opposition to the construction of the convention centre,” said Don Mills, Chairman and CEO of Corporate Research Associates. “With the convention centre now functional and enjoying early success, a clear majority of residents now seem to better understand the economic benefits of the new convention centre on the city’s economy.”
These results are part of the CRA Urban Report, an independent telephone survey of 400 Halifax (Census Metropolitan Area [CMA]) adult residents, 18 years of age or older, conducted from April 23 to May 7, 2018. Overall results are accurate to within ±4.9 percentage points, 95 out of 100 times.
