Liberals poised to sweep NL election

• The Liberal Party of Newfoundland and Labrador is the preferred party by a three-to-one margin
• One-half of residents are satisfied with the performance of the Progressive Conservative government
• Newfoundlanders and Labradorians continue to prefer Liberal leader Dwight Ball for premier

HALIFAX, NS November 24, 2015: The Liberal Party of Newfoundland and Labrador is poised to win the provincial election this fall, according to the most recent survey conducted by Corporate Research Associates Inc.

Specifically, two-thirds of decided voters back the Liberal Party (67% up from 48% in August, 2015), while support for the governing Newfoundland and Labrador Progressive Conservative Party rests at 22 per cent (down from 27%). Meanwhile, one in ten back the Newfoundland and Labrador New Democratic Party (10%, down from 25%), while less than one percent prefer the Green Party (compared with 1%).

The number of residents who are undecided rests at 23 percent (down from 28%), while three percent refuse to state a preference (unchanged), and a similar number either support none of the parties or do not plan to vote (3%, compared with 4%).

In terms of satisfaction with government, one-half (50%, compared with 49% three months ago) of residents are satisfied with the performance of the PC government. Meanwhile, just over four-in-ten (42%, compared with 40%) residents are dissatisfied, while eight percent do not offer a definite opinion (compared with 10%).

Premier Paul Davis’ personal popularity rests at 27 percent (compared with 24% three months ago), while one-half support Dwight Ball of the Liberal Party (50%, up from 42%). Preference for NDP leader Earle McCurdy stands at 11 percent (down from 17%), while one in ten prefer none of these leaders, someone else, or have no definite opinion at this time (11%, down from 17%).

These results are part of the CRA Atlantic Quarterly®, an independent telephone survey of Atlantic Canadians, and are based on a sample of 800 adult Newfoundland and Labrador residents. The survey was conducted from November 5 to November 22, 2015 with overall results for the province accurate to within ± 3.5 percentage points in 95 out of 100 samples.
