High Levels Of Satisfaction Across Atlantic Canada With Health Care Service Experience
HALIFAX: The majority of Atlantic Canadians are satisfied with the quality of health care services they have received over the past 12 months, according to the most recent poll by Corporate Research Associates, Inc. Across the region, residents in New Brunswick (85%, compared with 78% in May 2008) and Nova Scotia (84%, up from 76% in May 2008) have the highest level of satisfaction with the quality of health care they have received in the past 12 months. Newfoundland and Labrador residents are also satisfied with the quality of health care they receive (80%, compared with 81% in February 2008), followed by Prince Edward Islanders (78%, compared with 77% in May 2008).
“Despite the widespread perception of problems in health care services, the vast majority of Atlantic Canadians continue to be satisfied with the health care system based on their personal experience,” according to Don Mills, CRA’s president and CEO.
Residents of both Newfoundland and Labrador, and New Brunswick 55 years of age or older are more likely than younger residents to have higher satisfaction ratings of the quality of health care in their Province. In Prince Edward Island, those aged 18 to 34 have higher levels of satisfaction compared with older residents, while in Nova Scotia, results are fairly consistent across all age groups.
New Brunswickers indicate they were adequately served in their official language of choice when they last used the health care system, with 97 percent of residents in agreement.
These results are part of the CRA Atlantic Quarterly®, an independent, quarterly survey of Atlantic Canadians, based on a sample of 1508 adult residents. The survey was conducted from February 9 to March 2, 2009. Results in NB, NS and NL are based on a sample of 400 in each province, with results accurate to within +4.9 percentage points, 95 out of 100 times. Results in PE are based on a sample of 300, with results accurate to within +5.6 percentage points, 95 out of 100 times.
