Consumer confidence in Saint John rebounds after a decline last quarter
• Consumer confidence in Saint John increases this quarter after a sharp decline last quarter
• Satisfaction with the performance of Council under Mayor Mel Norton’s leadership increases even with the Mayor’s announcement that he will not seek re-election
HALIFAX, NS May 11, 2016: Consumer confidence among Saint John residents has rebounded this quarter, according to the most recent Urban Report Survey conducted by Corporate Research Associates Inc. (CRA). Specifically, Saint John consumer confidence rests at 95.5, an increase from 81.3 three months ago.
In terms of satisfaction with municipal government, six in ten Saint John residents (68%, up from 54% three months ago) are satisfied with the performance of the Council led by Mayor Mel Norton, an increase from last quarter. Norton announced in January that he would not seek a second mandate in the recently held municipal election.
CRA will assess residents’ satisfaction with the performance of the newly elected Saint John Council under the leadership of mayor-elect Don Darling in July 2016.
These results are part of the CRA Urban Report, an independent telephone survey of adult residents and consists of 400 Halifax CMA, 400 Saint John CMA, 400 Moncton CMA, and 400 Fredericton CA residents, conducted from April 19 to May 5, 2016, with overall results for each accurate to within ±4.9 percentage points, 95 out of 100 times. The survey results for government satisfaction are based on 400 Halifax CMA residents (±4.9 percentage points, 95% confidence level), 212 City of Saint John residents (±6.7 percentage points), 205 City of Moncton residents (±6.8 percentage points), and 284 City of Fredericton residents (±5.8 percentage points).
