Consumer confidence in Saint John continues to rebound
- Consumer confidence in Saint John continues to rise following a notable drop in confidence six months ago
- Satisfaction with the performance of Council under recently elected Mayor Don Darling’s leadership decreases slightly post-election, while more residents are unsure or do not offer an opinion on the matter
HALIFAX, NS August 18, 2016: Consumer confidence among Saint John residents has continued to rise this quarter, according to the most recent Urban Report Survey conducted by Corporate Research Associates Inc. (CRA). Specifically, Saint John consumer confidence rests at 99.5, an increase from 95.5 three months ago, and 81.3 in the first quarter of 2016.
Meanwhile, satisfaction with the performance of Saint John Council is down slightly under the leadership of Mayor Don Darling who was elected into office on May 9, 2016. Six in ten Saint John residents (58%, as compared to 68% three months ago under Mayor Mel Norton) are satisfied with the performance of the Council under Mayor Don Darling’s leadership. That being said, dissatisfaction has not increased but rather more residents are unsure or do not offer an opinion on the matter.
These results are part of the CRA Urban Report, an independent telephone survey of adult residents and consists of 400 Halifax CMA, 400 Saint John CMA, 400 Moncton CMA, and 400 Fredericton CA residents, conducted from July 21 to August 6, 2016, with overall results for each accurate to within ±4.9 percentage points, 95 out of 100 times. The survey results for government satisfaction are based on 400 Halifax CMA residents (±4.9 percentage points, 95% confidence level), 218 City of Saint John residents (±6.6 percentage points), 199 City of Moncton residents (±6.9 percentage points), and 289 City of Fredericton residents (±5.7 percentage points).
