Consumer confidence and satisfaction with City Council continue to be favourable in Halifax

  • Consumer confidence in Halifax continues to be strong this quarter
  • Satisfaction with the performance of Council under Mayor Savage’s leadership maintains the improvement evident three months ago, when it rebounded from its lowest level in over three years

HALIFAX, NS May 22, 2018: Consumer confidence continues to be favourable this quarter, according to the most recent Urban Report survey conducted by Corporate Research Associates Inc. (CRA). Specifically, the Halifax consumer confidence index stands at 104.0 (compared with 106.6 three months ago).

Three months after rebounding from its lowest level since August 2015, a majority of residents continue to be satisfied with the municipal government in Halifax. Specifically, two-thirds (67%, compared with 72% in February 2018, and with 63% in November 2017) of Halifax residents are satisfied with the performance of Council under Mayor Mike Savage’s leadership.

These results are part of the CRA Urban Report, an independent telephone survey of adult residents and consists of 400 Halifax CMA, 300 Saint John CMA, 400 Moncton CMA, and 401 Fredericton CA residents, conducted from April 18 to May 7, 2018, with overall results for each accurate to within ±4.9 percentage points for Halifax, Moncton, and Fredericton, and ±5.7 percentage points for Saint John, 95 out of 100 times. The survey results for government satisfaction are based on 400 Halifax CMA residents (±4.9 percentage points, 95% confidence level), 163 City of Saint John residents (±7.7 percentage points), 200 City of Moncton residents (±6.9 percentage points), and 280 City of Fredericton residents (±5.8 percentage points).
