Atlantic Canadians support term limits for elected government representatives
- A solid majority of Atlantic Canadians support term limits for municipal, provincial, and federal elected government representatives
HALIFAX, NS December 13, 2016: A solid majority of Atlantic Canadians support term limits for elected government representatives, according to the most recent survey conducted by Corporate Research Associates Inc.
Specifically, seven in ten Atlantic Canadian residents completely or mostly support term limits for municipal (68%), provincial (70%) and federal (69%) elected government representatives whereby they can only serve a certain number of terms, with terms typically being four years. Conversely, one-quarter completely or mostly oppose term limits for municipal (24%), provincial (24%), and federal (25%) elected government representatives. A solid majority supports term limits across all four Atlantic Provinces.
“There seems to be relatively strong support across Atlantic Canada for term limits for elected government representatives at all levels,” said Don Mills, Chairman and CEO of Corporate Research Associates. “This is probably not that surprising given the general disdain for career politicians and the sense of frustration often attributed to the effectiveness of government that commonly exists.”
These findings are part of the CRA Atlantic Quarterly®, an independent, quarterly survey of Atlantic Canadians, and are based on a telephone sample of 1,502 adult Atlantic Canadians, conducted from November 7 to December 1, 2016, with overall results accurate to within ± 2.5 percentage points, 95 out of 100 times.
