Support for NB PC Government Remains Steady
SAINT JOHN: Satisfaction with the performance of the provincial PC government remains unchanged this quarter, according to the most recent survey conducted by Corporate Research Associates Inc. Presently, 45 percent (compared with 47% in February 2012) of New Brunswick residents are either completely or mostly satisfied, while a similar number (45%, compared with 41%) are dissatisfied. One in ten do not offer an opinion.
Voter support for the provincial PCs is also stable, with over four in ten residents supporting the Progressive Conservative Party (44%, compared with 45% three months ago). Three in ten New Brunswickers back the Liberals (32%, compared with 31%), while backing for the NDP is stable (19%, compared with 22%), as is support for the Green Party (5%, compared with 3%). Less than one percent of decided voters back the People’s Alliance of New Brunswick (unchanged). Four in ten residents are undecided, do not plan to vote, or refused to state a preference (41%, compared with 45%).
Support for David Alward continues to fluctuate, showing an increase this quarter. Just under four in ten residents prefer Alward for Premier (37%, up from 31%), while interim leader Victor Boudreau of the Liberal Party is preferred by less than two in ten (17%, unchanged). Support for Dominic Cardy of the NDP stands at 12 percent (compared with 11%). Three percent (unchanged) prefer Jack MacDougall of the Green Party, while one percent (compared with 2%) prefer Kris Austin of the People’s Alliance of New Brunswick as Premier. Nine percent of New Brunswick residents like none of these leaders or prefer others, while two in ten do not offer a definite opinion.
These results are part of the CRA Atlantic Quarterly®, an independent survey of Atlantic Canadians, and are based on a sample of 419 adult New Brunswickers, conducted from May 14 to May 30, 2012, with overall results accurate to within ±4.8 percentage points, 95 out of 100 times.
